The property was originally a gas station and members of the United Methodist Church wanted to improve the area around the church and also recognize a member of their congregation so with funding from the Rhodes Family the parcel was bought and the Park was named after T.C. In 1975, then-Mayor Dessie Lorenz persuaded the State of Arizona to enter into the lease agreement with the City of Avondale and designate this property as a city park and the Council recognized Mayor Lorenz’s efforts by naming the park in her name.ĭoc Rhodes Plaza features a beautiful gazebo along Western Avenue.
